Today we saw the doctor for Reese's two month checkup. We were excited to see how she was growing and to get reassurance from the doctor that she was on track developmentally. We were not excited about getting her first round of shots. Before we left the house, Reese was extra smiley and bubbly and I was worried she wouldn't be the same when we returned home.
Reese has really grown! She weighed 13 lbs 12 oz and was 23.5 inches long. This put her in the 98th percentile for weight and the 88th percentile for height. We have a big girl on our hands! The doctor showed us the graph of her growth and she was right on the edge of the normal curve. She said that her weight and height were well-proportioned. I'm really hoping she gets Elliott's height and it looks like she's on the right track. I know... "the grass is always greener," but I think it would be better to be tall rather than short.
The shots weren't too terrible. She got a some drops in her mouth, which she tolerated with no problems. Then another nurse came in to help. I stood on the end by her feet and held her legs straight. Elliott was there for moral support. Reese was laying there smiling and totally relaxed right before they gave her the shots. They counted down and gave her all three shots at the same time. It took her about 3 seconds to realize that it was painful and her smile quickly turned into a frown and then a loud cry. By the time they stuck the band-aids on and let me hold her, she was mostly calmed down. She sniffled a little more until we gave her a bottle and then she was good to go. This afternoon we've spent cuddling, swinging, and sleeping lots and lots. I'm not sure she ever got a fever (maybe a mild one in the afternoon), but she is definitely irritable and seems to be in a little pain. Her cries are a little more urgent and loud. I've given her a couple doses of Infant Tylenol and I think it has really helped. Here's a picture of her after her shots. Poor girl! At least she got pink camo band-aids!
All in all, it was a good trip to the doctor. I really like our family doctor because she's matter-of-fact and very reassuring. She was very happy with Reese's development- holding her head up, focusing on objects, cooing, and smiling. She even said Reese has very strong legs! We're looking forward to the next couple months and the new "tricks" we'll be able to show the doctor at her 4 month appointment. We're loving this parenting thing!
With Love,
The Ybarras
